Elul 5784 Collage: Directions for Am Yisrael SJS and Mr. Sherman’s Collage

Dear SJS Teachers,

By the end of the Hebrew month of Elul, I would like each of us to create a personal collage. This includes all students, madrichim, and teachers in SJS.

What should the collage include?

  • A current photo of yourself
  • Your name written in both Hebrew and English
  • At least 5 words that are central to your Jewish experience
  • At least 5 words that describe you personally
  • Pictures or images that represent your interests, hobbies, or values, and how they connect to your Jewish identity. For example:
    • If you love to bake, you could include a picture of a challah with the caption “Baking challah connects me to my family’s traditions.”
    • If you enjoy playing sports, you could include a picture of yourself playing with the caption “Participating in sports teaches me the importance of teamwork and fair play, values that are central to Judaism.”

Please ensure that the completed collage does not exceed the size of an 8.5×14 sheet of paper.

We will display these collages in a prominent place in the classrooms where you spend the most time. The collages for Kitah Kochavim will be affixed on a wall in the Omanut (Art) Room 11, as they will spend 30 minutes in that classroom every Sunday.

I encourage you to use class time to work on these collages and to compose a short introductory message to your students, introducing yourselves as the classroom teachers. Please send me this introductory email by 12 noon on Tuesday, September 10.

Please note that you can use portions of this message in your letter to parents, explaining the collage project and its significance.

Thank you,

Charlie/Mr. Sherman/Mar Sherman
